Tae Hyun Byun R.Ac, BSc.
Tae was born and raised in South Korea. Growing up, as he recalls, his grandmother used to rub his belly clockwise and calmly sang to him ‘Grandma’s magical hand’ whenever he had a stomach pain. When Tae had a cough, his mother, using Korean Hand acupuncture technique, put pressure tags on his fingers to ease it. Sometimes, his grandmother asked him to rub her shoulders, and in doing so, he realized how relieved she felt from a simple routine of massage. Growing up in such a culture surrounded by traditional, or rather folk remedies, he did not know why or how they worked, but understood them as they were.
Realizing one’s life purpose does not mean it will come easily. Tae did not realize until later in his life, the healing path of Traditional Medicine was the given purpose of his life.
Instead of going back to university to complete his chemical engineering degree, Tae left to Australia to study Geology and worked at a mining company after finishing his military service in Korea in 1997. His yearning for knowledge and experience did not stop there, but drove him to study international trade and to work for an international trading company in Korea for five years. During that time, he was sure that his life and work were fulfilled with excitement and joy. However, in his subconscious mind, he knew he was miserable from overworking and frequently flying out for overseas business trips.
Exhausted and depleted, Tae went to see his Tui Na mentor. After the treatment without any word, his mentor suddenly asked Tae if he was happy in his life, and, if not, what he should do. This was the moment Tae decided to spend his life in practicing the Traditional Medicine.
Tae started his healing journey with Traditional Chinese Medicine in 2007 after arriving in Canada. He has obtained the Acupuncture diploma from the Pacific Rim College in 2010, and is registered as an acupuncturist with the College of Traditional Chinese Medicine Practitioners and Acupuncturists (CTCMA) of British Columbia. He also has completed his study in Oriental Medicine and Doctor of Traditional Chinese Medicine at the Pacific Rim College, and currently works at Sunflower Centre for Acupuncture & Holistic Healing in Victoria.
Tae has a genuine passion for Traditional Medicine through Acupuncture, Herbs, Tui Na, Ddeum (Moxibustion) and an interest into how our amazing bodies resonate with them. Most of all, he understands the impact of every single acupuncture needle, single herb and a touch of a practitioner on you as they did on him.
